Fit Food Founder: It All Started With Cakes…
Lucy Reid: When I was little I was mad about anything sweet. Mum would not let my sister or me buy cakes or sweets. ‘Cakes were only for parties or special occasions.’ I was always thinking of ways to get more sweet treats. I came up with a brilliant idea aged 5: when mum next went to the supermarket I would go with her and add all the ingredients needed for baking cakes into her shopping trolley then I could make them myself. Mum only said I was not to buy sweets, she never said I was not to make them myself!
So my love for cooking began…
It was obvious that one day I would choose a career in catering.
Along came sport…
I decided to use my cooking skills to travel. First stop was the Alps; By day I would hurl up and down the ski slopes on my snowboard, then in the evenings I would cook 4 course meals for the hungry skiers.
2004: I did the Haute Route in the French Alps on my (split) snowboard …
I then moved to chef in the South of France where first thing in the morning I would go for a swim in the sea, followed by a trip to the food markets where I would buy the most amazing fresh produce for the day, then it was back to the kitchen to prepare lunch. After lunch I would head to the hills on my road bike and see how far I could get before returning to work to prepare dinner.
Sport and cooking – bliss!
2005: I did a Half Ironman Triathlon 70.5 Monaco …
In 2006 I returned to Scotland to set up my own business. Graham Tiso Ltd, retailer and outdoor sports specialists, were looking for a café operator to open in their premises at Tiso Glasgow Outdoor Experience: the ideal sporty location to open Fit Food Bistro.
Fit Food Bistro was created in January 2006 with the emphasis on serving delicious daytime food, always freshly prepared on the premises, balancing great tastes with good nutritional awareness and a really nice café environment. Fit Food is great food fit for sports and fit for life.
2008: I did my first full Ironman Triathlon Switzerland & loved it …
2009 & 2010: I followed my dream to run the Marathon Des Sables (Sahara Desert) – twice, in between a couple of other Ironman Triathlon events (swimming, biking, running) when I could fit them in …
30th September 2010: Fit Food Bistro Perth opened in the amazing new Tiso Perth Outdoor Experience.
